Heritage Open Day at St Augustine’s Abbey
Visit St Augustine’s Abbey free of charge as part of Heritage Open Day

St Augustine’s Abbey, part of Canterbury’s World Heritage Site, opens its doors on Saturday 19 September. Founded in AD 598 by St Augustine, this historic abbey marks the rebirth of Christianity in southern England. A cornerstone of the Canterbury World Heritage Site, it serves as the 6th-century base for the mission to convert the Anglo-Saxons and grows into a major centre of learning and spirituality over the centuries.

Visitors explore its remarkable ruins and discover the abbey’s fascinating past. The site also has a strong historical link and may be the birthplace of the Bayeux Tapestry.
