Highlighting of the Cathedral
from 12 December 2026
to 01 January 2028
The new lighting project for the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Bayeux adopts an innovative approach by treating the building exclusively from the outside.
The light design favors a sober and immersive writing style, entirely respectful of the monument.
A gradient light veil envelops the architecture: at the base, a golden amber hue evokes the earth and history, then gradually lightens to a neutral white at the top, in an ascending movement that suggests the elevation and spirituality of the place. This vertical treatment emphasizes the dynamics of Gothic architecture without visual interruption.
Scheduled for commissioning in December 2026, this new lighting will accompany the opening of Millennium and is part of the commemoration of the 950th anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Bayeux by the Archbishop of Rouen, Jean d’Ivry, in the presence of Odon, William, and Matilda.
Note: this is not a show but a valorization of the monument through lighting.
