When the bricks build the legend of Gisors

The City of Gisors is carrying out a unifying cultural and participatory project. It highlights the history of the city and its castle through a playful, creative, and accessible approach.

The project is based on the history of the Gisors castle, built at the request of William the Red, son of William the Conqueror. It creates a dialogue between heritage, artistic creation, and collaborative practices around a universal medium: Lego bricks. This approach makes local history more readable and stimulates the curiosity of various audiences.

A series of illustrated historical scenes retraces the major episodes of Gisors' history. Each tableau is accompanied by a mediation text written by the Heritage service, ensuring reliable, educational, and clear content. Together, they result in an illustrated work, at the crossroads of a beautiful book, a mediation tool, and a souvenir of the visit, contributing to the enhancement of Gisors' heritage.

These scenes also serve as the foundation for a participatory Lego project. The tableaux take the form of mosaics presented during a temporary exhibition lasting two days in October 2027. The event offers an immersive and creative discovery of local history. The mosaics are built collectively, with guidance provided by a specialized association recognized for its expertise in Lego murals and historical mediation.

This dynamic combines artistic practice, knowledge transfer, and intergenerational workshops.

Beyond its playful dimension, the project fosters exchanges between generations, strengthens the ownership of heritage by local residents, and renews awareness-raising methods about history. By combining contemporary creation, cultural mediation, and construction play, the City of Gisors is developing an innovative, accessible, and unifying event.
