A lecture given in the remarkable setting of Somerset's earliest Norman church

Discover more about Somerset's experience of the Norman Conquest, the personalities that shaped it and the legacy of art and architecture we have inherited. Somerset contains key sites connected to the Conquest and architectural evidence in its parish churches of the transformation the Normans brought to the life and landscape of the county.

The lecture will be given by the Somerset historian Tom Mayberry. The setting will be the early Norman church at Thurlbear, a building that was probably the work of the Count of Mortain, the Conqueror's half-brother.
