This conference traces the journey of Louis-Philippe I, the last king of the French, and explores the political, diplomatic, and cultural legacy he leaves to France.

From his stays between France and England to his friendship with Queen Victoria, whom he hosted at the castle of Eu, his itinerary illustrates the intensity of the ties that unite the two countries in the 19th century. Through his actions and reign, the efforts for reconciliation among the French, as well as the lasting rapprochement between France and the United Kingdom, emerge. His life also bears witness to the close connections that have united the French, British, and European aristocracies for nearly a thousand years.
