Map of Tendre / RELIQUIAE
A performance and a film by Colette Sadler

Map of Tendre / RELIQUIAE is a new cinematic and performative project by Colette Sadler, created and presented as part of Millennium 2027. The project brings together Pavillon-s / Le fruit intégral (Rouen/Andé) and Stammer Productions LTD (Glasgow).

The work explores a central question: in the context of artificial intelligence and the ecological crisis, what becomes of archaeology in a distant future? How are human experiences recorded and remembered? Drawing inspiration from science fiction narratives and visual aesthetics from films such as La Jetée by Chris Marker and Metropolis by Fritz Lang, the project imagines a future where a body and a life are reproduced from an existing human subject, thus creating a form of living archaeology of human existence.

The piece examines the future through the architectural, cultural, and spiritual legacy of Norman presence in Scotland. It questions human identity as shaped by movements, oral traditions, conflicts, beliefs, and shared stories. It is also interested in how technology — notably artificial intelligence and robotics — interacts with human experience, questioning what defines humanity and which elements of lived experience still escape programming.

This work is part of Colette Sadler's long-term artistic research on the social impact of technologies in understanding the human condition. It draws on the common architectural heritage and historical links between Scotland and Normandy, serving both as a visual backdrop and a conceptual basis for the film and performance.
