ME GUILLAUME, or in the mind of a Conqueror
10 September 2026
Immersive and participatory show by Julie Delaurenti
Authoritarian lord, great builder, and cunning strategist, William the Conqueror was one of the most powerful monarchs of Western Europe during the Middle Ages.
But who was he really? How does one become William the Conqueror, how does one remain so, and most importantly, how does one pass on such a legacy?
Following the successes of "The Mystery of the Last Duel" and "The Water of the Hills" by Pagnol, the Div'Art company invites the public to
immerse themselves in the mind of the Conqueror and enter the legend.
At the time of his death, William must make his final decision: choose his heir.
Haunted by the ghosts of his past, accompanied by his jesters and the ghost of Matilda, he revisits the episodes that have shaped his legend: His threatened childhood, his love, his family, the conquest of England...
A tragicomedy where laughter meets emotion, where jesters challenge kings, and where ghosts come to claim their place in History.
William the Conqueror could have been a Shakespearean hero, and he is treated like a King Lear or a Macbeth, tormented by his demons and visions. In these visions, the significant figures of his life, both past and present, visit him in the form of puppets, animated by the jester and two puppeteers, creating a ghostly, dreamlike, and epic dance all around him.
This show is presented in two forms: An immersive version with four artists on stage and an immersive and participatory version with the local residents.
