Meet the Curators of Castles, Mottes & Monasteries

Delving into Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland's Archives & Collections

The Normans brought significant changes to Ireland and left a vast legacy in Ulster.

Many Norman sites remain preserved today across Northern Ireland: spectacular castles such as Carrickfergus and Dundrum; evocative monasteries like Greyabbey and Inch Abbey; and defensive earthworks including the mottes of Clough, Duneight and Dromore.

This exhibition presents photographs, surveys, reconstruction drawings and archaeological artefacts from Norman sites across Northern Ireland, preserved in the archives of the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland.

Come meet the curators of Castles, Mottes & Monasteries and learn all about the fascinating history behind the exhibition. This in-person event is an opportunity to learn more about the captivating monuments in the Castles, Mottes & Monasteries exhibition.
