Millennium: a graphic novel

The Alliance Française of Normandy carries an ambitious project for the French cultural network abroad: the creation and dissemination of a visual, sound, and augmented mural retracing the European history of the Normans from 1027 to 2027. This original, immersive, playful, and educational work highlights the lasting impact left by the Normans on their European journey, thus revealing to Francophile audiences, whether they are French speakers or not, the cultural, political, and of course linguistic heritage born from the conquest of 1066. Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and reinterpreted in a contemporary graphic language, the mural is painted in the premises of the Alliance Française of Normandy in Rouen. Modular and digitizable, it aims to travel internationally. The installation combines sound elements, an educational booklet, and activities for French learners, as well as conferences and workshops on the language, particularly the Anglo-Norman lexicon. The artistic creation is led by inkOj, a visual artist and interior designer, in collaboration with La Fabrique de patrimoines en Normandie, thus ensuring the historical and linguistic rigor of the work. Presented for the Month of Francophonie 2027, the work offers an immersive and enriching experience to the international audience, highlighting Norman heritage and its role in European history.
