The Normans in Calabria

19 June 2027

The Benedictine Abbey of Sant'Eufemia in Lamezia Terme

This conference highlights the research conducted on the ruins of the Benedictine Abbey of Sant'Eufemia and on the role of William Pantol in the foundation of this building.

Through this study, the presentation also emphasizes the significant influence of the Normans in Calabria, particularly under the leadership of Robert Guiscard, who was a central figure of power in Southern Italy and Sicily.

The presentation draws on numerous archival documents and a rich iconographic corpus, which allows for the illustration of the site's development and its historical context.

At the end of the conference, a time for discussion will be offered.

Speaker: Professor Francesco Cuteri, archaeologist and professor at the University of Rome.
