Scientific investigation aimed at verifying the contents of the sarcophagus attributed to Odo of Bayeux and advancing historical research. Collaboration between Prof. Giovanni Travagliato, an Art Historian and professor of Medieval Art History at the University of Palermo, and Prof. Philippe Charlier, one of the leading European specialists in studying the remains of historical figures.

A forensic doctor, anthropologist, and paleopathologist, he is the director of the Department of Research and Teaching at Université Paris-Saclay and has built much of his scientific notoriety through the analysis of mummies, relics, burials, and remains attributed to historical figures.

His specialty consists of applying methods from forensic medicine, physical anthropology, genetics, radiology, and archaeology to figures from the past, seeking to answer questions about identity, causes of death, diseases, and the authenticity of relics.

Prof. Charlier has taken on the commitment to conduct research by exhuming the remains of William the Conqueror and his consort Matilda of Flanders.

At the same time, Prof. Charlier has agreed to study the sarcophagus attributed to Odo of Bayeux in Palermo.
