From the Medieval Woman to the Contemporary Work

RÉVÉRENCE is an artistic and cultural project dedicated to the female figures of medieval Normandy. It brings together a collection of contemporary works created by artists, craftspeople, and medievalists, showcased in various heritage sites in the region.

The project offers a renewed perspective on this history by highlighting influential women, often absent from collective memory. A collaborative approach, conducted over more than two years, combines historical research and contemporary creation to bring forth varied portraits, revealing autonomous, active, and pivotal figures.

From these narratives, the artists develop a body of original works that blend jewelry, sculpture, cabinetmaking, and leatherwork. These sensitive and demanding forms convey a contemporary interpretation of historical trajectories and compose an ensemble that is both poetic and embodied.

- A traveling exhibition
From March to October 2027, the exhibition will travel through Normandy and will offer, at each stop, a selection of works inspired by the journeys of these women, from their birth to their destiny.
- An associated program
A series of meetings will accompany the journey: lectures, visits, and round tables will bring together artists, craftspeople, and academics around the connections between creation, history, and transmission. These moments of exchange will particularly address the making of the works, the role of women in history, and the sensory experience of art.
- A different perspective
The project also develops a sensory approach, engaging touch and hearing to make the works accessible to the widest audience and to offer an inclusive experience, with particular attention to visual impairment.
