Fred Ivar Klemetsen

For several decades, Fred Ivar Klemetsen has been documenting Sámi culture, reindeer herding, and the people who live closest to nature in the Far North. His photographs speak of identity, belonging, and survival, but also of a landscape in profound transformation.

In recent years, climate change has become increasingly visible in the Arctic. In Greenland, the ice sheet is melting faster than before, releasing enormous amounts of freshwater into the North Atlantic. Researchers estimate that this could affect the ocean currents that carry warm waters to Norway and the rest of Europe.

This exhibition speaks of people living closest to nature, often the first to feel that a deep change is underway.
