The Thursdays of the Baronnie - 1204, the end of the Anglo-Norman empire founded by William.
25 March 2027
Conference
Fabien Paquet, lecturer in medieval history at the University of Caen Normandy and a member of CRAHAM, proposes to revisit the fate of the legacy left by William the Conqueror.
After the victory of 1066, the connection between Normandy and England lasted for nearly 150 years, before breaking in 1204, when Philip Augustus triumphed over the Plantagenets, shortly after the death of Eleanor of Aquitaine. This conference questions the reasons for this defeat and its consequences for the Normans: what happens to the empire forged by William? Did Philip Augustus dissipate or transform this legacy?
