Exhibition trail in the city and at the Porte Horloge of Vire

The exhibition highlights the prominent figures of the 11th and 12th centuries who contributed to shaping Vire and its territory, tracing the political, architectural, and social developments that marked this period.

Particular attention is paid to medieval heritage, especially military and religious architecture, as well as various aspects of daily life in the Middle Ages: weaponry, culinary practices, arts, and crafts.

Among the personalities featured is Henry I Beauclerc, responsible for the construction of the square keep and Notre Dame church, as well as several major actors of Norman power.

Richard Goz, baron of Saint-Sever, notably participated in the conquest of England. His son, Hugues le Loup, was a co-founder of the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Sever, Count of Chester, and governor of the stronghold of Vire.

Throughout the summer, the exhibition is enriched with several key events allowing for further exploration of this period: storytelling walks, themed visits.

An exhibition designed by the Association of Virois Collectors under the direction of Sonja Jambin and Matthieu Balusson of the Vire Country Tourist Office.
