The Becquet of the Iton, a story of water and fortification

Inaugural day dedicated to the heritage enhancement of the Becquet site, a remarkable medieval hydraulic structure developed under the reign of Henry I Beauclerc, son of William the Conqueror, to distribute the waters of the Iton and supply, in particular, the ditches of the stronghold of Verneuil sur Avre.

This festive and educational day offers an immersion into the heart of the Middle Ages through activities, demonstrations, visits, and artistic interventions that allow for the discovery of the history of the Becquet, the craftsmanship of the men who shaped the landscape and managed the water resource nearly a millennium ago.

The event facilitates a dialogue between history and the present around a question that remains relevant today: the management and sharing of water resources. From the defense of medieval fortresses to contemporary issues of water preservation, the Becquet site is a natural jewel classified as a historical monument that testifies to the importance of this resource since the time of William the Conqueror.
