Introduction to Medieval Illumination

Discover the traditional technique of illumination through the creation of a bookmark (5 × 20 cm). This meticulous art combines egg-based tempera and pure pigments applied on goat or calf parchment, then enhanced with the application of 23.75-karat gold leaf.

The workshop begins with a presentation of medieval manuscripts and the ornamentation of books. After a phase of motif research and composition of the design, it moves on to inking, an initiation to calligraphy for those who wish, followed by the application of gold leaf and coloring.
