The Alderney Bayeux Tapestry Finale

from 01 January 2027

to 31 December 2027

The Alderney Bayeux Tapestry Finale brings to life a creative ending to the famous Bayeux Tapestry

Hand-stitched on linen using traditional methods, the work closely follows the look and feel of the original embroidery, with similar weaving, colours, and materials. It presents four historical scenes, culminating in the coronation of William the Conqueror.

This remarkable community project was completed in just one year, thanks to the contributions of over 400 islanders and visitors, each adding their own stitches. Notably, King Charles and Queen Camilla also took part during a visit to the island, leaving their personal mark on the Alderney Bayeux Tapestry Finale.

The project was initiated by Kate Russell, Pauline Black, and Robin Whicker, and inspired by the work of textile artist Jan Messent.
