The French Festival
from 10 July 2027
to 11 July 2027
2027 Millennium Edition
2027 stands out as a significant year for Jersey, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate the historical and cultural ties that bind the island to Normandy.
The French Festival 2027 unfolds in two parts: a Medieval Festival on July 10 and 11, followed by a Normandy-style French Festival from July 14 to 18.
This ambitious edition aims to reconnect residents and visitors to Jersey's Norman roots through a lively, educational, and festive program.
For two days, a grand medieval celebration immerses the event in the heart of the Middle Ages through an immersive experience celebrating this heritage. Wearing medieval-inspired costumes helps enhance the atmosphere.
The Norman association La Baronnerie St Loise presents Béhourd, a combat sport inspired by medieval practices, with demonstrations, workshops, and discussions around historically accurate equipment. A medieval market showcases traditional crafts and culinary specialties, while a reenactment camp brings to life the daily life of the Middle Ages through skills, cooking, costumes, and stories.
The show "Me, William or in the Mind of a Conqueror," by the Div'art company, offers a powerful participatory theatrical performance, a kind of autobiography, fanciful and fabulous, where William, tormented by the throes of agony, revisits his life, accompanied by his jester.
The medieval poet of Jersey, Wace, will also be honored through readings of his work: “Le Roman de Rou.”
The Norman group Courseval reinterprets contemporary songs with ancient instruments in a festive atmosphere and offers workshops for the younger ones. A children's area enriches the event with traditional Norman games, stories, and activities related to chivalry.
School parades, participation from the Office du Jèrriais, and engagement from partnership committees complete this grand popular celebration.
>>> From July 14, the French Festival continues with a more contemporary program, still rooted in ties with Normandy. A Norman market welcomes producers and merchants offering a wide range of regional products.
The celebration on July 14 unites the French and Francophile community around a friendly moment and a typically Norman honorary cider. Film screenings, shows, games, and other activities enrich this festive period.
The French Festival 2027 thus establishes itself as a major cultural event for Jersey, celebrating a shared history while fostering exchanges, transmission, and dialogue between generations and cultures.
