The House of Altavilla
22 May 2027
The House of Hauteville
The Casa di Altavilla is a bilingual theatrical creation, in French and Italian, presented by two performers: a French actor and an Italian actress.
Aymeline Alix and Daniel San Pedro, artistic directors of the Cie du 4 Septembre and the Cie des Petits Champs, intersect their approaches in a joint creation. With fifteen years of collaboration under their belt, they design a project rooted in the history of Normandy, envisioned as a territory of exchanges and shared cultures.
In a contemporary writing style, the author Christelle Saez revisits the epic of the Hauteville dynasty. From the exile of Roger I to the peak of Roger II's reign, the play moves away from mere reconstruction to infuse a living momentum into History.
Synopsis
In the 11th century, Norman knights leave their homeland to venture into the Mediterranean. Among them is Roger of Hauteville. This journey marks the beginning of a rapid ascent that leads his lineage to the crown. The performance retraces this path, from the first conquests in Sicily to the reign of Roger II, founder of a unique kingdom where multiple cultures coexist.
- A Structuring Cross-Border Cooperation
The project develops through close collaboration between France and Italy. On stage, the alternation of French and Italian embodies the dialogue between two territories linked by a shared history. Institutional partnerships in Sicily and southern Italy support its deployment and enhance its international reach. This dynamic lends the performance a human and artistic dimension based on exchange.
- A Versatile Performance
The set-up, lightweight and autonomous, allows for great mobility. The performance takes place in theaters as well as heritage sites, schools, media libraries, or outdoor spaces.
