"Schools in Bloom" Infiorata of the Youth
Schools in Bloom is a historical event that for over twenty years has been one of the most awaited and significant appointments in the cultural calendar of the city of Noto. Born with the aim of transmitting the ancient art of floral design to the younger generations, the initiative represents an important moment of education about heritage, shared creativity, and enhancement of local traditions.
The event traditionally takes place on the second weekend of May as a tribute to spring and actively involves schools, students, teachers, and families in a large collective artistic creation project. For the occasion, the central Via Rocco Pirri is transformed into a captivating open-air museum, where young participants create spectacular floral carpets using thousands of petals, leaves, and natural materials.
On the occasion of Millennium 2027 – European Year of the Normans, the 2027 edition will be dedicated to the discovery of the history and heritage of Norman Sicily and the European territories that share this common legacy. Along the street, eleven large floral carpets will be created inspired by monuments, figures, symbols, and events that have marked the Norman history of Sicily and its connections with Normandy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia, and the other partner countries of the project.
Through the universal language of flowers, students will be invited to rediscover a fundamental page of European history and reflect on the values of dialogue, cultural exchange, and international cooperation that characterize Millennium 2027. The event will thus become not only an opportunity to pass on a unique artisanal knowledge but also a tool for education in European citizenship and the enhancement of shared cultural heritage.
Each year, this extraordinary synergy between art, tradition, and youth participation attracts thousands of visitors from Italy and abroad, helping to strengthen Noto's role as the capital of floral art and collective creativity.
