Traditional Songs and Music from the Shores of the English Channel

After delighting audiences with their interpretations of the traditional repertoire of the Channel Islands, Lihou return with an exciting new creation.

This concert broadens the musical journey to encompass the entire English Channel region, known to our British friends as the Narrow Sea. While no music from the Norman era of the 11th century has survived, invaluable sources dating from the 15th century to the present day allow the songs and melodies of both sides of the Channel to be brought into dialogue. Much like the relationship between Normandy and Britain itself, these musical traditions are at once closely connected and distinctly different. Together, they tell a story of rivalry, exchange and shared heritage across the centuries.

The musicians of Lihou explore these connections with skill, humour and creativity, inviting audiences to discover and gain a deeper appreciation of the cultures that have long thrived on either side of the Channel.

Featuring James Dumbelton (vocals, mandolin, fiddle), Chloë Richard-Desoubeaux (vocals, Baroque violin, flute, percussion) and Étienne Lagrange (vocals, fiddle, hurdy-gurdy).

This concert is produced by La Loure – Music and Oral Traditions in Normandy.
