Reenactment

The Medieval Days “At the Court of Frederick” take place in the village and the Castle of Lagopesole and reenact the documented visit of Emperor Frederick II, son of the Norman Constance of Altavilla, to this much-desired summer residence in a location cherished for hunting and tranquility.

During the event, the village transforms into an open-air theater: the streets welcome costumed performers, medieval markets, military camps, dances, games, falconers, and period music. At the center of the reenactment is the imperial historical procession, based on contemporary chronicle sources, which commemorates the arrival of the Swabian court in 1242, with the Saracen cavalry leading the way and the imperial court following.

Throughout the day, reenactment activities unfold inside and outside the castle: falconry demonstrations, educational sessions on weapons and medieval combat techniques, camps, and workshops for children. A gastronomic journey completes the experience with dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of the time alongside specialties of the local tradition.
