Meet the Normans!
How was medieval Guernsey influenced by the Normans and William the Conqueror and what legacies remain to this day.
At the Guernsey Museum & Art Gallery, this exhibition immerses visitors in the world of the 11th century. Step back in time to experience life on the island and understand how the Normans influence Guernsey’s history, customs, language, religion, law, architecture, and culture.
The exhibition reveals the connections between the medieval Norman world and the islands of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, highlighting how these influences endure today.
It features specially commissioned historical figures, new research, archaeological artefacts, and a remarkable Norman document recently rediscovered in the Museum’s archives and now authenticated.
Visitors also learn about the Bayeux Tapestry and its significance within the wider Norman story.
