Church, institutions, and society

The conference will focus on medieval Mileto. The first part will be dedicated to the city of Roger I, with the establishment of the chapter of the cathedral, which played an important role in the count's chancellery. Some canons actually wrote bulls that testify to the foundation of the diocese on behalf of Roger I and in turn became bishops.

Continuing on the theme of the diocese, there will be a discussion about the Sigillum aureum of the Count with the granting of the fief of Sainte-Agnès to the Bishop of Mileto. Finally, a presentation on the territory and the landscape will conclude the first part of the conference. A documentary exhibition dedicated to the main themes of the meeting will be set up in the diocesan historical archive.

The second session will focus on the city in the post-Norman period, with presentations concerning the Norman house of Sanseverino, Angevin Art, and the artistic styles that are later visible in Mileto (the works of the master of Mileto, those of Antonio da Napoli, etc.), the vision of the City in the Middle Ages, and the architectural transformations that affected the Episcopate and the Cathedral.
