Noto Flower Festival Millennium 2027
from 14 May 2027
to 18 May 2027
European Year of the Normans
The tradition of the flower carpet involves creating large floral rugs made up of tens of thousands of petals, leaves, and carefully selected plant materials, arranged by hand according to preparatory designs developed by artists and master flower decorators. For several days, the streets of the city become a true open-air museum, where the beauty of the floral compositions interacts with the exceptional heritage of the city of Noto, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On the occasion of Millennium 2027 – European Year of the Normans, the 48th edition of the Infiorata will feature a series of floral carpets inspired by the Norman history of Sicily and the European territories that share this common historical heritage. The sketches will come to life in the heart of the historic center of Noto, along the famous Via Nicolaci, one of the most evocative urban settings of Sicilian Baroque, and will narrate through the language of flowers the significant events that shaped Norman Sicily and the connections it still maintains today with the other territories involved in the Millennium.
The floral works will celebrate the monumental, artistic, and cultural heritage of the Norman period, highlighting the multicultural character of medieval Sicily, a meeting place for Latin, Byzantine, Arab, and Jewish traditions. Through symbolic images, historical figures, monuments, and decorative motifs inspired by Norman art, the floral carpets will offer the public a poetic and spectacular reading of this extraordinary chapter in European history.
Visitors from all around the world come to Noto to admire the floral creations while also participating in numerous related events organized for the occasion: concerts, exhibitions, performances, guided tours, cultural meetings, and activities dedicated to families and young people.
Included in the program of Millennium 2027, the Infiorata of Noto will represent an extraordinary opportunity to enhance the Norman heritage and promote European cultural dialogue, transforming the art of flowers into a means of narrating history, of meeting, and celebrating the cultural diversity that characterizes European identity.
