Osmoy 1027 - 3027

from September 18 2027

to September 19 2027

One thousand years of Norman heritage, one thousand years of transmission

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2027, Osmoy-Saint-Valery highlights the transmission of its heritage through the Notre-Dame church, consecrated in 1170 and recently restored. Built in Normandy inherited from William the Conqueror, it bears witness to the continuity of Norman history beyond 1066. The event symbolically connects three dates: 1027, the year of William’s birth; 2027, the time for rediscovering local heritage; and 3027, the future millennium of his birth.

The return of the statues previously held by the Department marks one of the highlights of the event. A inauguration and a presentation will reflect on the history of these works, their preservation, and their place in the restored church.

Guided tours and a photographic exhibition will also trace the history of the monument, its architecture, transformations, and the scale of the restoration project carried out with the involvement of many local stakeholders.

A concert of medieval, Norman or sacred music showcases the restored acoustics of the building and recalls the legacy of William the Conqueror as well as the origins of Normandy.

In parallel, the students from the town are participating in the creation of a time capsule entitled “A message for 3027,” gathering testimonies, drawings, photographs, and perspectives on life in 2027.

Sealed at the end of the event, it symbolizes the transmission of a local heritage rooted in a millennia-old history.
