Reenactment

The event "The Palio of the 3 Fiefs" takes place between the village and the federiciano castle of Castel Lagopesole and reenacts, in a scenic and competitive form, the chivalric atmosphere of the age of Frederick. The event takes inspiration from the account contained in the essay Il Vulture by Angelo Bozza (1889), which describes a large clearing at the edge of the forest, likely intended for tournaments and military training.

Set in 1242, the documented year of Frederick II's presence in Lagopesole, the event imagines that the emperor, on the occasion of the expansion of his domus, called for a Palio among the three ancient houses of the territory: Lagopesole, Agromonte, and Montemarcone.

The village comes to life with craft shops, merchants, falconry shows, walks in the nature reserve, musical entertainment, jugglers, and moments dedicated to the material culture of the Middle Ages. As evening falls, the representatives of the three fiefs compete in the trials of the ring, the javelin, and combat. The winning fief earns the honor of keeping the Palio for a year. The event concludes with popular festivities by torchlight, evoking the spirit of celebration and competition that animated the imperial courtyards.
