The return of the Normans to Sicily

from 04 March 2027

to 07 March 2027

Historical Reenactment Event

The return of the Normans to Southern Italy is a major medieval historical reenactment project promoted by the Norman Brotherhood, a collective that brings together associations specialized in living history and the enhancement of European Norman heritage.

The heart of the initiative will be “The Game of Kings,” a spectacular knightly tournament inspired by the Norman tournaments of the 11th and 12th centuries, in which teams representing the great protagonists of the medieval Mediterranean will compete through foot, horseback, and archery trials.

Scheduled to take place in Palermo as part of the Millennium 2027, the project will animate symbolic locations such as the Parliament Square in front of the Norman Palace, the Foro Italico, and the Cathedral, offering the public an immersive experience that combines performance, historical dissemination, and participation. An interesting collaboration is expected with local historical reenactment companies that will create a genuine camp in the historic center.

Alongside the tournament, there will be parades, demonstrations of medieval crafts, costume presentations, educational activities, and animations dedicated to the Bayeux Tapestry, medieval cuisine, and everyday life in the Norman world.

The initiative aims to enhance the shared historical heritage between Normandy and Sicily, promoting intercultural dialogue and the transmission of European memory through an interactive formula accessible to all types of audiences, with particular attention to young people and students.
