A tale of the Sacred

Sacred architectures between Calabria and Normandy: spirituality and power The digital creation through video projections aims to provide an evocative vision of the sacred architectures and monastic complexes that, between Calabria and Normandy, testify to the legacy of Norman presence. These buildings will be narrated not only as material structures, as "stones" that preserve traces of a thousand-year-old history, but above all as "places" that have been lived: spaces traversed by men and women, clergy and laypeople, custodians of practices, objects, relationships, and memories. The projections will highlight the dual nature of these sites, places of the sacred and spirituality, but also scenes of temporal power and social dynamics that characterized the Mediterranean Middle Ages. Through a visual dialogue between the two regions, common elements and cultural references generated by the Norman presence will emerge, as well as the specificities of the Calabrian contexts, to which the conquerors from the North adapted, giving rise to original forms of encounter and contamination between cultures, traditions, and architectural languages.
