Threads of Light
from 25 May 2027
to 28 September 2027
As part of Millennium 2027 – European Year of the Normans, the Cathedral of Cefalù, one of the most extraordinary monuments of Norman architecture in Europe and a site included in the UNESCO Arab-Norman Itinerary of Palermo, Cefalù, and Monreale, will host an artistic and audiovisual project by the Norman artist Jacques Perconte, an international reference figure in the research on digital imaging and contemporary landscape.
The work will be conceived in dialogue with the contemporary stained glass created by Sicilian artist Michele Canzoneri, establishing an original comparison between historical heritage and contemporary artistic languages. Through the use of moving images, light projections, and audiovisual compositions, the project will explore the role of light and sound as symbolic, spiritual, and architectural elements capable of crossing centuries and relating different cultures, territories, and sensitivities.
The Cathedral of Cefalù represents one of the highest examples of cultural synthesis achieved by the Norman rulers, who integrated Latin, Byzantine, and Mediterranean influences into a vision of extraordinary modernity. Jacques Perconte's work fits into this tradition of dialogue between cultures, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the monument through the language of digital arts and moving images.
The artistic intervention will not only enhance the exceptional architectural heritage of the Cathedral but will invite the public to experience the space in a new way, transforming light and sound into a tool for storytelling and contemplation. The images and projections will interact with Michele Canzoneri's stained glass, creating an immersive experience in which matter, color, and brightness become vehicles of memory, emotion, and knowledge.
The project also assumes a strong European dimension, relating Normandy and Sicily through two contemporary artists invited to engage with a common historical heritage. In this way, the Cathedral of Cefalù will become not only a place of Norman memory but also a space for creation, innovation, and meeting between cultures that contributed to shaping European identity.
Through the dialogue between contemporary art, monumental heritage, and audiovisual research, the initiative aims to offer visitors a new way of understanding heritage, demonstrating how a millenary legacy can still generate new forms of artistic expression and cultural dialogue.
