Cross-Channel Perspectives from Normandy and the Channel Islands

As part of MILLENIUM – 2027, European Year of the Normans, the Société Jersiaise and the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche are organising an international meeting in Jersey bringing together learned societies, historical and archaeological associations from both sides of the Channel.

Founded in 1873, the Société Jersiaise has a long tradition of researching and promoting the Norman heritage of the Channel Islands. This event provides a unique opportunity to explore the shared history and cultural connections between Normandy and the Channel Islands and to highlight the essential contribution made by learned societies to the preservation and dissemination of this common heritage.

Over three days, participants and visitors are invited to attend lectures, presentations and round-table discussions addressing themes such as the history of learned societies, their role in advancing knowledge of the Norman world and the challenges of preserving and communicating heritage in the twenty-first century.

The programme also includes guided visits to Jersey's historic and archaeological sites and opportunities for informal exchanges between participants, encouraging new partnerships and strengthening existing links between institutions and researchers across the Channel.
